Why Do Women Decide to Get Breast Implants?

In this video featured on The Plastic Surgery Channel, Dr. Walden discusses the results she found from a survey of her patients that revealed why women decide to undergo breast augmentation and how they get their information about the procedure and doctor. She is quoted as saying, "It wasn’t because of a spouse or a significant other. It wasn’t because a family member pressured them to. It was just because they wanted to make themselves look and feel as good on the outside as they did on the inside.”

This confirms previous research on the topic that many women independently and thoughtfully seek this procedure to look and feel better about themselves, as they may not be pleased with the shape, size or asymmetry of their breasts. The survey was conducted over a period of 2.5 years and surveyed over 100 patients who underwent breast augmentation in her practice. Co-authors of the study include Sarah Shrader, RN, BSN, MHA, and Georgia Panagopoulis, PhD.
