Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, both have the capacity to light up the screen with their sheer presence.

It is hard not to compare Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth though both of them belong to different genres of acting. These contemporaries are the best of friends and both have the capacity to light up the screen with their sheer presence.
Rajini has recently proved with the success of Endhiran that the year 2010 belongs to him,but will Kamal snatch away the glory with his year-end release - Manmadhan Ambu?
Most of Kamal's films which released soon after a blockbuster from Rajini, have turned out to be smash hits.
Thenali after Padayappa, Vasool Raja MBBS after Chandramukhi and Dasavatharam following Sivaji were all smash hits. Can we expect this magic to continue for Kamal with MA hitting the screens after Endhiran?
The trade around the world is very optimistic. Soma, one of the well known exhibitors in USA, is quite confident about the response to the movie, when he says, "Anticipation for Manmadhan Ambu was already high in the US. But this being Kamal's next big after Endhiran, the expectation bars have been raised even further".
Kamal's fans across the globe are expecting this one to be another Thenali & Panchathanthiram from the commercially hit team of
Kamal & K.S.Ravikumar.

Kamal Haasan in a statement to his fans (Manmadhan Ambu)

Kamal Haasan in a statement to his fans stated that he has deleted the song which had hurt the sentiments of Hindus. In the statement Kamal Haasan has mentioned:
"Greetings to all my beloved sweet fans,
I have come to know that a song which I have written for Manmadhan Ambu has hurt the feelings of the Hindus. The Censor Board who has censored this film has also permitted this song since this does not have any lines that would hurt the feelings of anyone. This song was also telecast in Vijay TV three times and had a good reception. I would have released this film with the song with the Censor Board certification if the film was produced by me. This is Red Giant Movies film. Since this film is being produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin and should be viewed by members of all religions, we had come forward to delete this song though thousands of people have enjoyed this song.
In my family there are Vaishnavites, Saivites, Muslims and Christians. Most of them are believers. They are not like me. I am a rationalist and atheist. It is like that and it will continue to be so.
Manmadhan Ambu is a business. That also it is another person's business. I am only an artist. I am not new to political obstacles. This film was made with the intention to entertain. So I have made this decision to sacrifice this song for it should not die in this turbulence of religion and politics.

Kamal Haasan is my Guru
CHENNAI: Although she might not be happy with the way her Bollywood adventure turned out, Trisha still has a lot to look forward to from her career in South Indian films.
Her upcoming Tamil film is opposite her screen idol Kamal Haasan. The actress is not only excited about her role in ‘Manmadhan Ambu’, but is also mighty pleased with her stage performance with her acclaimed costar. Trisha sang a song and recited poetry on stage with Kamal Haasan.
Referring Kamal Haasan as her guru, Trisha Krishnan says that it was due to the sincere tutoring efforts of Kamal Haasan that she was able to sing and recite so well during the audio launch of ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ in Singapore. ‘Manmadhan Ambu’ is a romantic comedy where Trisha Krishnan plays the part of an upcoming actress.
Also in the pipeline for the actress are films such as ‘Mankatha’ and ‘Savithri’ opposite actors Ajith and Venkatesh respectively.
These days, Trisha is more careful with her choice of films and brands to endorse. Having begun her career as a model, she endorses several brands such as Fanta, Scooty Pep+ and Fiama Di Wills. source expressbuzz.com

Kamal said, “I can give my word that talented Malaysians will definitely be featured in my movies.”
The actor, who was in the foreign country recently, told a news agency: “Tamil films are merely mirrors which reflect incidents, occurrences and behavioural patterns of people.”
He was reacting to allegations by some Malaysian political parties and service organisations that violence in Tamil films is pushing ethnic Malaysian Indian youth towards crime.
“Violence is widely reported in the daily life of the people in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the rural areas. We, through the movies, attempt to highlight the social problems which already exist,” he reportedly said.
Saying that he had discussed with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak during his visit to Tamil Nadu on giving opportunities to talented Malaysians in Kollywood, Kamal said, “I can give my word that talented Malaysians will definitely be featured in my movies.” source IndiaGlitz.com (http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/61780.html)

DO WE NEED AN ‘AMBU’ FROM THE ETERNAL MANMADHAN?

Do we really need something as small as an 'Ambu' from the eternal Manmadhan of Tamil cinema?! This was the question I got when I watched Aalavandhaan one more time – the nandhu asylum scenes, the hallucination scenes, the flashback scenes - in a state of reverie, sacrificing a much needed good night's sleep in the weekend. My answer to my own question was 'No. We need mind-boggling Bazookas from him'
The experimental persona of Kamal is a bit reluctant to come out these days. The genius in the actor-writer comes in sparks in Aalavandhaan. Why cannot he use the flair to the fullest, now that he has reached an age of 56. Do we really need a romantic comedy being picturised in a cruise in Monte Carlo, with Kamal romancing Trisha,?! Not that he cannot make it look convincing in 'Manmadhan Ambu'and give us an
Kamal
interesting watch. He can and he will. The question is 'should he?'. What pricks me is just the fact that he hasn't got a lot of cinema years left in him. Let me be realistic here. He can play the protagonist roles till he reaches an age of say 65. This leaves only a handful of years and the least I would like Kamal do is waste them by acting in paisa-vasool comedy films.
So what is that I expect him to do? The answer is a simple proposition. Give us a hard-hitting, soul stirring, 'food for thought' film like the gem 'Mahanadhi'.
That was not the last of gems he had given but I purposefully site it as it was the last successful of such attempts. The other gems that failed have been mega-budget flicks like:
Hey Ram – A wonderful, carefully researched blast from the past. A Godseian view of the partition of India told tastefully. It was a casting coup of sorts and so was understandably a high budget venture, the fact that it was a period film didn't help the monetary cause as well. The net result was that people did not (or should I say did not want to) take it. In raking the moolah, it failed miserably. Many memorable scenes notwithstanding, the only scene that became popular was the romantic tryst between Saketh and Aparna – the youtube hits of it being a proof to this viewers' disgusting sham!
Aalavandhaan – Even though it stays right on top in my list, I wouldn't call this a masterpiece. Nevertheless, it had its own share of some mesmerizing sequences. Some of Nandhu's scenes were brilliantly etched by Kamal. Unfortunately, not many watched those scenes from the angle of a drug-hallucinated, paranoid schizophrenic suffering from the trauma caused by a step-mother in his miserable childhood. The net result of this film was the talk that Kamal squandered the money to send one more producer to exile.
Anbe Sivam - Another brilliant work of his that suffered at the box office but didn't suffer at the hands of the audience after its release was 'Anbe Sivam'. The film was not complex like a Hey Ram or an Aalavandhaan, yet it made people think. It remains a huge mystery why the film didn't fare well at the BO. Anybody who has seen the film has only good views on it. Maybe the problem was they all saw it in thiruttu cd!
So, the analyses on these films would make my point clear. If Kamal does an authentic emotional class film that isn't complex, the people would accept it. Only when he chooses intricate concepts to be made as films does he suffer. He seems to have understood this. But, maybe understood that a bit too much, because, he seems not only to have given up writing complex scripts but also to have given up making uncompromising films.
If the argument is that he makes such stop-gap films to only get financial backing that would make get his dream films like 'Marudhanayagam' and 'Marmayogi' back to life, I have given the answers for that too. No production house will be ready to fund such interesting projects. Maybe, after the dream run of 'Enthiran', Sun Pictures would. But again, whether it would interest them to invest such amounts in an experimental film of someone whose track record has a perfect yet commercially uncompromising Hey Ram in the list is a point to ponder. They cannot be entirely blamed, for, they are doing business. Afterall, a loud, crass 'Singam' earns, in its first few weeks, more than a semi-experimental 'Raavanan' in an urban centric Chennai which is said to be a Maniratnam bastion. People's taste for films hasn't seemed to have changed. But with some tough arousing films, Kamal can cause that change. He nearly did it on a few occasions, only to falter at the final hurdle by giving either a complex film or riding the upswing tide with a commercial flick. All that the writer in Kamal needs to do is, give a string of (not one, but a string of) prudent, low budget, heart touching works instead of wasting time in a luxury-liner at Monaco. What's the thrill in doing something everybody knows he can do at ease!
If Clint Eastwood,at 80, can do that with 'Million dollar baby', 'Gran Torino' & 'Invictus' Kamal too can. He only needs to realize it. Thalaivaa, Are you listening?!

Kamal Haasan – “Cinema is my happiness’

I am still looking cinema with daze. Cinema is filled with daze, thrill, perturb and happiness. On the day of my film's release I will be seeing the face of the audience. The happiness and the cheerfulness on their face is real.
I actually wanted to work as a screenplay writer. Once when I went to Modern Theatres, I happened to see Kalaignar's script. There were so many details and nuances in it. After seeing this I postponed this matter for another six years. There are lots of things to be forgotten by an actor. But in one matter they should be arrogant. You should not respect your earlier victory. I have no respect for myself. But I very often get perturbed.
I always take my early success has challenging. We should not be disturbed about failures. In cricket, if they lose, are they breaking their heads? They get ready for the next match. We should be like this. Nadigar Thilagam gave 13 continuous flops. If it was anybody else, they would not have survived. But his next 14th film ran for more than 200 days.Only he is capable of this.'
Kamal Haasan presented shields to Surya, Vadivelu, Ramesh Khanna, Manobala, Anand Babu, FEFSI Vijayan, Alex, actresses Saroja Devi, Nayanthara, director K S Ravikumar, producer Udhayanidhi Stalin. Co-producer Shenbagamurthy, music composer Harris Jayaraj, lyrists Na Muthukumar, Thamarai, choreographer Gayathri Raghuram and PRO Nikil Murugan.
Tamil film producers Council president Ramanarayanan, Kalaignar TV CEO Amirtham, Surya, Parthiban, Vadivelu, directors A R Murugadoss, Lingusamy, Dharani and music composer Harris Jayaraj also spoke on this occasion. Udhayanidhi Stalin did some charitable to visually disabled people and other orphanage homes on this occasion.

Kamal Haasan and AR Rahman Honoured by Prime Minister
Kamal & Rahman honoured by Prime Minister
Posted: 22 Dec 2009 03:51 AM PST

The CNN IBN Indian of the Year 2009 award was given to A R Rahman and Kamal Haasan by Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh yesterday.
