"The American" Movie Review

Synopsis
In the aftermath of a job gone awry, an American hitman retreats to the Italian countryside, where he befriends a local priest and strikes up an unexpected romance while awaiting the details of his next assignment. Jack (George Clooney) is lucky to be alive after his Swedish assignment went sour, and he knows that it's only a matter of time before his luck runs out. Not eager to tempt fate again, Jack arrives in a small Italian town and takes a job assembling a weapon for the mysterious Mathilde (Thekla Reuten). During this uncharacteristically peaceful interlude, Jack befriends kindly clergyman Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli), and connects with pretty local Clara (Violante Placido). But in the process of reaching out for a little human contact, Jack is making himself more vulnerable than ever. SURA Movie Review - Only for Vijay Fans otherwise you will be find stupidity..

The much anticipated Ilaya Thalapathi starrer Sura hit the marquee today. With Sura being his 50th film, movie buffs and Vijay fans were looking forward for something different from their star. However, there is no variety in the film and it happens to be a usual Vijay fare. The script seems to be a combination from his earlier ventures. Of course, the actor does not disappoint his hard core fans, as Sura has all the elements that will satiate them. Sura is about the lives and plight of the fishermen living in Yazh Nagar, a fishing hamlet in Tamil Nadu. The story, no doubt centers only on Vijay, who is known as Sura.

It is Vijay's attempt to thwart the efforts of villain Dev Gill (who played the villain in the popular Telugu film Magadheera) from acquiring the hamlet to develop it into a resort. In chips the hero, fights for justice and dramatically obtains patta for the land so that everyone living there could build a house. However the duel between the hero and villain could have been more gripping.

The role of the heroine in this film leaves a lot of room for debate – is it really essential to have one in Sura? Tamannah appears in some dance sequences, a few scenes and in all adorns the movie as a glamour piece. This is perhaps the first film, where Tamannah marries on screen! Yes, Sura ends on a happy note with the lead pair entering wed lock.Talking about the heroine, her introduction itself is very amusing. Tamannah attempts suicide by drowning in the sea, for the simple reason that the pet dog goes missing. Of course, the hero makes his dramatic appearance to save her. Somewhere in the middle love blossoms and then follows a couple of duets. While talking about the hero Vijay's introduction it is even more amusing than the heroine's and needs a special mention here.

The movie begins with a cyclone hitting the fishing hamlet and all the fishermen moving back to the shores for safety. Vijay, of course is missing and everyone is in search of him. Being the hero, he saves one and all before making a very dramatic appearance from mid-sea.The fights in Sura could have been choreographed well, considering Vijay's performance levels in other films.

Though there are some gravity-defying stunts, the fight seems to lack the punch and force that one usually associates with a performer like the Ilaya Thalapathy. For an excellent dancer, this film offers very little scope for exhibiting his dancing skills too. The Bommayi – Choo Mandra Kali song happens to be that 'once more' type of song, while all others except En Peru Saravedi does not turn up the heat.Vadivelu's mere presence is enjoyable and there is nothing much to say about the comedy track. The scene where Vennira Aadai Murthy renders the popular song Marudamalai Maamuniye in a concert and Vadivelu gestures not to exert too much but thinking that Vadivelu is coercing him to sing even more forcefully, Vennira Aadai Murthy sings with full gusto, had the audience in splits of laughter.

There are umpteen numbers of irrational scenes in the film that has even the Vijay fans squirm in their seats with dissatisfaction. The classic example is when the actor lights up the stove with the flip of his fingers.Vijay has made sure to draw the attention of the Tamil audience by addressing the sensitive Sri Lankan Tamils issue and the Rameswaram fishermen's plight. These scenes were probably included to pacify the Tamils. The negative aspects of Sura are no doubt the music, illogical, if not slow screenplay, gravity defying stunts, slow moving scenes.

Verdict: In all, Sura is a usual Vijay fare that will be a treat for his hard core fans. review by behindwoods.com

Paiyya Movie Review

From the maker of 'Anandam', 'Run', 'Ji', 'Sandakozhi' and 'Bheema', here comes a disappointing film 'Paiyya' that in no way holds a special mention for its clichéd storyline and narration. The film isn't nowhere different from Lingusamy's previous films' plots –say –Run and Sandakozhi as you can find the similarities with an ease.

The film well with an entertaining approach, but literally sets itself on contrastive grounds during the second half. When Vijayakanth, Sarath Kumar, Arjun and Vijay rolled down the hefty henchmen at the same time at various Indian States, Karthi too joins this bandwagon.
Doubtlessly, he'll be one amongst them if he continues performing fight sequences of not getting hurt at any point of time.
Shiva (Karthi) set outs for a job interview in Bangalore and stays with his friends over there. Coming across a beautiful girl Charu (Thamannah) with angelic looks, he cannot afford to stop following her. But his senses are high-spirited, when the same girl asks him to drive her to Mumbai mistaking him as a driver. The girl is accompanied by a Telugu speaking Gunda, who is dropped on the half way. And as the journey continues, Charulatha shares her deplorable flashback thereby a great support from Shiva.

At a crucial point on highway, where the henchmen are looking out for her, he takes a different route only to find other gang of bullies chasing the car. This time, it's not for Charu, but they are hunting down for Shiva.

What follows next is a series of yet another flash back (just like Dhanush comments on Vivek in 'Padikadhavan' – Flashback Onnum Appadi Weighta Illayee) that leaves you restless yearning for the end credits.

Lingusamy has committed two biggest flaws – penning a threadbare story that has no life in screenplay, especially during second half and completely wasting the efficient skills of Bollywood actor Millind Soman. Karthi's mannerisms are same as his emoting quotients in 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Aayirathil Oruvan'. He has to come out of that or else will get labeled with a degradable verdict for his stereotyped performance.

Here we bring you one more flaw about Thamannah's characterization. If Lingusamy had to portray her as wonderful girl, who doesn't even want the guy to take a look over her hips (during second half, prior to 'Sutthude Sutthude' song), how does she dance with such a skin show for 'Adada Mazhaida' in first half itself.
Lingusamy, quite Illogical Ji…

Millind Soman shouldn't have picked this offer and maybe it looks like he was badly in need of pocket money to pick such roles. Hope, his Bollywood buddies don't watch this film. Jagan's characterization is okay, though his comedy tracks aren't so much convincing.

How come our filmmakers are still brimmed with dim-witted ideas about a hero moving into territories of Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai and easily smashing down them? It's time to grow up.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's score is the one and only highlighting part as he adds more colors to the youthful touch. Mathi's cinematography is magnificent while Anthony's editing flawless as he avoids using immediate cuts and plug-in gimmicks.

The first half is somewhat commendable as there are more characterizations involved in lively conversations. Especially, the IT guy getting into the car and wooing down Thamannah is an abrupt laugh-riot. But as the second hour opens with an unjust flashback, nothing seems to be doing well for the film.

Since, there aren't any big releases at this point of time; the producers can somehow push the film's survival for next 100 days. Of course, they might have got ready with the 100th Day posters for the film by now.

Bottom - Line: You Blood - Same Blood
Verdict: Karthi Hitting "Villains Flying"

Story

Sandeep (Allu Arjun) is a happy go lucky guy who is fun loving but very traditional at heart. He decides to get married in the traditional fashion of five-day events and 16 day celebrations. So much so that he decides not to see the face of the bride until the 'Jeelakarra Bellam' time. True to his idealism, even the bride Deepthi (Bhanusri Mehra) sticks to it. Just when they are about to get married, Deepthi gets kidnapped by Diwakar (Arya). Why does Diwakar do that? Does the marriage happen? What happens from there forms the rest of the story. Artists Performance:

Allu Arjun, given his highly energetic image, this comes across as a mild character which was etched out poorly so the flair of Allu Arjun is missing. He needs to work on his dialogue delivery as a lot of accent is surfacing.

Bhanu Mehra is not worth the mystery. Barring the beauty spot on her chin and expressive eyes, there is not much from her in terms of glamour or performance.

Arya has a strong screen presence and powerful eyes but then his role was not drawn properly and he was not used to the fullest potential. However, he brought some life to the movie at few places.

Brahmi was waste, so was Ahuti Prasad, the others like Ashish Vidyarthi, Suhasini, Naresh, Vinaya were just for brand value and they didn't have much to offer. Singeetam Sreenivasa Rao, the senior director did his bit as required. Lavakusha Nagaraju appears in a single frame. Nasser was natural, Sayaji Shinde was brief, Rao Ramesh came and went. The other bunch of real time families and supporting artistes were there to fill the screen, that's all.

Meaningless Aspects:

* Fight on twin towers (I visualized them so..somebody said they looked like Nuclear Reactors/ Gas Chambers)
* Truck carrying away the hero along with bike rubbing against the road with sparks…and hero safe and steady
* Hero running away with heroine along with Saline bottle in an action episode

Final Analysis:

It is a laudable thought to come up with a presentation of an authentic Telugu wedding but the difference between a thought and getting it onto the screen is like chalk and cheese which is evident here. Gunasekhar has missed the way to do 'Varudu' impressively.

The entire episode of 5-day marriage is covered in just one song out of which, the first Charanam appeared no less like an 'Ammavari Jaathara' on screen, the second charanam got covered up with computer graphics. Why the hero wants to go in for a pre historic style of marriage? Is it his idealism? Is it just a fantasy? The questions aren't answered logically. There is forcible preaching with less convincing dialogues.

Ultimately, what matters is the purpose the film is made at such exorbitant costs and what is the message it is trying to convey. Gunasekhar failed not just in the narration but also in conveying anything to the audience. His focus to bring about visual appeal looked more but he neglected the fundamentals like a strong script, deep content, and attention towards details. Cinematic liberties were used to the fullest and there were some absolutely ridiculous scenes which perplexed the audience at many points. Gunasekhar has always been revered as a brand and not just a director but it is with regret that he has lost it…and that too big time. The film might have a decent opening due to the hype created but given the budget involved; only 'no-competition factor' and the presence of Allu Arjun should save it.

MUNDHINAM PARTHENEY MOVIE REVIEW

With Mundhinam Partheney - a title inspired by the first line of the celebrated song from Vaaranam Aayiram, director Magilzh Thirumeni presents his maiden directorial venture produced by 7th Channel Communications. Following his mentor Gautham Menon's footsteps, he has chosen an urban milieu to narrate his story and has succeeded in recording it to a large extent. MDP is about the journey of a young man in pursuit of his soul mate and his emotions, mistakes and the numerous sensations associated with it. Sanjay (Sanjay) is a middle class city dweller living in an apartment complex and working as a software professional with many friends which includes both men and women. Like any man of his age, he wants to find Ms Right.

Sanjay has a set of ideas for his life partner and tries to find them in the girls that he comes across. When he thinks he is in love with Pooja, his neighbor, she jilts him for an NRI. When he is nursing his wounds, he comes across Aarthi (Ektha) but he is dissuaded by the malicious rumors about her and at the same time, gets attracted towards her. He joins her dance school and tries to get close to her despite realizing her characteristic traits don't match his personal guidelines for a wife. Meanwhile, there is a new product manager Anu (Lizna) in his office who walks into his life. Who Sanjay chooses to walk with him in the journey of life and what makes him take this important decision forms the rest of MDP. While many of the Kollywood directors look to rural setting to record realism, here is Magilzh who has done that taking Chennai as his premise. He has chronicled urban realism perfectly. The life of employed youth in the city is portrayed with honesty.

It is obvious that Magilzh has treaded on a tested path but all the same has tried to bring in a few pizzaz here and there. New comer Sanjay is natural, has understood his character and has essayed it well. He is every bit the boy you see next door. Sai Prashanth as Dinesh, friend of Sanjay is the perfect foil and overtakes everyone in his performance. His expressions and body language are impressive. Out of the three ladies, Ektha has more footage and delivers well. Sanjay and Ektha are good find indeed! Lizna is very cute and appealing. Pooja's role is very minimal. It is refreshing to watch friends of the hero in the same age group.A touch of levity runs through most of the film which is enjoyable.

The scene where Sanjay and Dinesh are left with no partner in a salsa dance, Dinesh trying to meet his internet girlfriend with a weird name Piston and the resultant event, Dinesh's sister finding unused, expired condoms in his room emphasizing that he is one big bragger, Dinesh wishing his office mate at her wedding are a few examples. There are many such cute sequences. Light hearted humor seamlessly flows in the narration. An excellent support to MDP is its music. Thaman once again proves his mettle especially in Indre Indre and Manadin Adiyil number. Shades of Sillunu oru Kaadal are evident in Mundhinam Partheney number.

Re-recording suits the tempo of the film. Cinematographer Vincent brings alive London, Italy and Venice in the song sequences. Lush locales are a good visual delight. However, the first half of the film unfolds slowly and it takes a while to warm up. The momentum picks up after the interval.

A consistent and an engaging cohesive screen play would have made a positive difference to this light hearted venture. Sometimes, love seems to be more of an obsessive feeling for the hero in the film rather than a natural event. Nevertheless Magilzh Thirumeni should be lauded for eschewing mindless violence, gory bloodshed and other formulaic clichés in his debut venture.

Verdict: A Pleasant, feel good outing!

Problems created by lovers among themselves are one thing while problems created by others to these lovers are another thing. But what happens if both these takes place in a romance. Simbhu frequently asks," Why should I love Jessie when there are so many other girls". This question may be asked by many youngsters or their friends in real life. The amazing romance, confusions and the pain has been narrated in a beautiful way.

Simbhu dons the role of Karthik. He who completes engineering aspires to become an assistant film director. Simbhu goes as a tenant to a house whose owner is the father of the Malayalee girl Jessie. Trisha who dons the role of Jessie works in Infosys. Karthik seeing Jessie loses his heart to her. At one point he decides that his love will not work out and tries to at least try to become a friend of Jessie. This friendship ultimately turns out to be love. But Jessie gets scared and confused about her parents. She confuses Karthik also and finally deiced to settle with the person arranged by her family. Whether Karthi and Jessie reunite is the rest of the story to be seen on the silver screen.

Simbhu as Karthik is not a boy who can show tricks by hand. His maturity can be well seen in this film. Let it be when he falls in instant love with Jessie or the way he wanders to make his love a success are really captivating. In a scene he follows Jessie to KFC. When he comes near Jessie, she asks whether he was following her. He in turn says that she is following him. Jessie says her office is here. He in turn says that KFC is also here. He watches Jessie walking. When the salesman asks for order, Simbhu asks the bearer not to disturb him because he wants to watch her until he goes. He is almost the mouth piece of today youngsters. His voice modulation is really superb. He captivates the hearts of the audience when he speaks to Jessie about her saying that there is a girl in his heart. This film has taken Simbhu to another phase in his career.

Trisha is cute and exceptionally captured the hearts of the audience. Her mischievous look and her body language are really incredible. In some of the sequences it can visibly seen that there were stiff competition where Simbhu and Trisha are in dialogues in the climax sequences.The dialogues in the film are very realistic and Gowtham has given Simbhu a good scope to bring out his hidden acting talents.

There is no need to speak much about A R Rahman's music. The songs of this film have already become popular. The lead guitar right from the beginning journeys throughout the film with us. The songs Omana Penne and Hosanna are fantastic. Rahman has once again ruled his dynasty with elegance. It definitely makes one to hum the songs while coming out of the theatres.

There are no words to describe the camera work of Manoj. He had earlier shown his coolness in the film Eeram. He had excelled in this film.

On the whole Gowtham Vasudev Menon has given a cute and sweet musical romantic film.

VETTAIKARAN is not a blockbuster

Tamil film industry may boast about certain amenities that gets it going on top ofworld. We've extraordinary actors, astounding technicians and their mind-boggling works. We've the World renowned actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth and A.R. Rahman, who make more news on headlines much greater in magnitude than Shah Rukh and other Khans of Bollywood.
But then, there are few things that stop us from getting the film industry ahead. Few actors like Vijay who makes the situations worsened up.
In a recent interview, with a print media owned by 'Vettaikaran' producers, he has mentioned that the film is a blockbuster….
Oops! did he ever visit the theatres on the 5th day, the audiences have felt as though a disastrous moment has happened.
'Vettaikaran is a blockbuster' can be the speculative lies that can't forgotten in centuries to come.

Directed and written by S. P. Jananathan in his venture and produced by Ayngaran International, it stars Jayam Ravi and Roland Kickinger in the lead roles while Ponvannan, Vadivelu and Urvashi, prominent actors from the south Indian film industry, played supporting roles in the film.The film revolves around is a tribal forest guard who works for the welfare of his tribe and spreading education among them. Whilst, on a team bonding mission with five college girls, whom initially mistreat him due to his caste, they stumble on a group of foreign mercenaries who are planning to stop India's scientific progress by destroying a rocket launch by using missiles. How the team bonds together and defeat the potential threat forms the crux of the story.The film opened to audiences worldwide on 16 October 2009, coinciding with Diwali.


5. Pasanga - பசங்க

Directed by debutant Pandiraj, who worked as an erstwhile assistant to Cheran, and starring newcomer Vimal and Vega Tamotia of Saroja fame in lead roles. The film, produced by Sasikumar and scored by James Vasanthan, who both rose to fame with the 2008 hit film Subramaniyapuram, it released on 1 May 2009.

Directed by Chakri Toleti, starring Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in the lead roles. Earlier titled as Thalaivan Irukiran in Tamil, the film was made in Tamil and Telugu (as Eenadu) with Venkatesh playing Mohanlal's role in the Telugu version. The film, is a remake of the 2008 Bollywood film, A Wednesday!, directed by Neeraj Pandey, began its filming in March 2009 and released on 18 September 2009 to positive reviews.

9. Siva Manasula Sakthi - சிவா மனசுல சக்தி

Directed by Rajesh and starring Jeeva and newcomer Anuya Bhagvath, a student of Pune Film Institute, in the lead roles. Actor Arya appears in a special appearance in the movie. It began its first schedule on 10 March 2008. The film, which is said to be loosely based on the 2001 South Korean film My Sassy Girl, released on 14 February 2009, became successful and is declared a hit at the box office.There is a staple story line that has been tried and tested in movies many times before -- a poor boy meets rich girl, they have their differences, eventually the boy destroys the rich girl's ego, her family's pride and whatever left of her self-esteem and makes her his docile, submissive, traditional wife.
